This slender gallery proportioned carpet was likely never destined for commercial sale, rather intended as part of an audience set consisting of 4 or 5 pieces, of which this would have been the largest item. The concept is that of furnishing a mobile court for a Kurdish Khan with a flexible seating arrangement, hence the description of audience. The design is that of a classic Mineh Khaneh / Mina Khani pattern - flowers seen flat on.
The condition is considerably worn and at some point prior to us acquiring the carpet, a clumsy attempt has been made at making good, with permanent textile dyes applied to the worn structure to disguise the low pile areas of this otherwise noble carpet.
